Relay For Life team captain meet Saturday

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will host a “Team Captain University” meeting from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Church gym on Kuhio Highway in Kapa’a.

Team captains for both the May Relay For Life in Hanapepe and the June event in Hanalei will get together and learn fund-raising practices, how to keep the “fun” in “fundraising,” how to use the Internet to raise funds and the ACS mission to stamp out cancer.

Team Captains University is a special workshop for Relay For Life team captains looking for ideas on how to make their tasks easier, to get ideas and “how tos” on fund-raising and to get help answering tough questions that might be posed to captains and other team members.

“Team captains are the most important people in making Relay a success,” said Erika Sy, the American Cancer Society’s community manager in a press release. “Without team captains there are no relays.”

Light refreshments will be served and door prizes given. All who are considering becoming team captains or co-captains are invited.

Another team captain meeting on logistics and ordering T-shirts is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. April 14 at St. Michael’s and All Angels’ Episcopal Church at Hardy and ‘Umi streets in Lihu‘e.

Team captains should be prepared to bring all accumulated donations for tabulating to the church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 21                        

April 30 is mandatory campsite selection for the Hanapepe Relay for teams staying overnight at the soccer fields adjacent to Hanapepe Stadium. The Hanapepe Relay For Life is 6 p.m. May 2 to  6 a.m. May 3. North Shore Relay For Life is June 27/28 at Waioli Park on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei.
