LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Beekeeper’s Association will be hosting a community forum on today at Kalapaki Beach Park in Nawiliwili from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a press release. As part of the event, members of the community will be able to participate in an informal “meet and greet” session for the 2009 Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Board of Directors candidates.
The KIUC forum is part of a KukaKuka Big Tent event, a multi-faceted community building program, the purpose of which is to bring together community interests for a collaborative effort to benefit Kaua‘i through dialog and action. Organizers said they hope to create a relaxed and informal setting to kukakuka, or talk story, about Kaua‘i’s sustainable future.
The Kaua‘i Beekeeper’s Association is in the process of organizing with the assistance of the state and county to monitor the potential negative impacts of the varroa mite on Kaua‘i. The goals of the campaign to keep Kaua‘i varroa mite-free are to develop capacity to place and monitor feral swarm traps and keep communications open with stakeholders.
