KALAHEO — Kaulupono has one more shot to hand the Kamikaze-White a defeat.
This morning is the final round of games for the county’s 13 and Under basketball program and Kaulupono faces the Kamikaze-White starting at 10 a.m., the second of three games on tap.
Thursday night, Kaulupono edged out the Kamikaze-Red, 23-16 in a single match after the Z-Girls forfeited its match against the Kamikaze-White.
Entering this morning’s games, the Kamikaze-White remains undefeated with its forfeited win.
Casey Anacleto took the lead for Kaulupono, scoring all of her game-total nine points in the final period. Following her, Nicole Palacio netted four of her game-total five points in the second half when the team under coaches Bobby Kamakele and Pedro Saligumba racked up 18 of their game-total 23 points.
Alyssa “Malu” Vegas, getting cheered on by boys from the Papalina program who were in the audience, joined Taylor Gaspar’s hustle and Jofferlyn Perpose for a pair each in the win.
Lele Haine opened up the scorebooks with a bomb from outside the three-point arc, that score remaining through the remainder of the defensive exchanges between the two squads in the first half.
Haine went on to finish with seven points to lead the Kamikaze-Red effort followed by Annie Ballestaros adding three second-half points. Pairs from Sariah Ijima, Kaitee Yago and Lele Silva rounded out the effort.
Kamikaze-Red faces the Z-Girlz in an 11 a.m. match. Earlier this morning, Lihu‘e will tangle with the Westside in a 9 a.m. game at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
