The Kapa‘a High School boys are unseeded at the Hawaiian Airlines Boys Basketball State Championships which start Wednesday.
The Warriors will meet Word of Life (9-5) in a 7 p.m. tipoff at Farrington High School, Wednesday, the opening night of the Division II tournament.
If successful in that outing, Kapa‘a will advance to meet the No. 1 seed, Castle High School (15-2), Thursday in the Division II quarterfinals. That match would start at 7 p.m., also at Farrington.
No. 2 seed for the Division II boys is Kohala (13-0) of the Big Island with No. 3 seed going to Hawai‘i Baptist. Seabury Hall (10-5) of Maui is the No. 4 seed.
Kapa‘a earned the right to represent the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation at the Division II boys basketball state championships after defeating the Round 2 leader, Kaua‘i High School in a playoff game last week at the Bernice Hundley Gym. The Warriors won Round 1.
With that win, the Warriors finish the KIF season with a 6-3 record entering the state competition.
Other teams participating in the Division II competition include University (12-2), Pahoa (9-4), Roosevelt (12-5), Hanalani (9-7), Kailua (14-3) and Molokai (12-3).
The Division II championship is scheduled for Saturday starting at 5 p.m.
Top seed in Division I goes to Kamehameha-Kapalama (11-1) with Kahuku (17-1) getting the No. 2 seed. Waiakea (11-2) of the Big Island is the No. 3 seed and Baldwin (14-0) of Maui is the No. 4 seed.
Teams participating in the Division I competition include Kalaheo (12-6), Radford (12-4), Kaimuki (13-5), Kea‘au (9-4), Punahou (9-6), Campbell (12-4), Iolani (10-2) and Lahainaluna (8-6).
