LIHU‘E — In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Committee on the Status of Women will host the Kaua‘i premiere of “Patsy Mink: Ahead of the Majority.”
The award-winning documentary explores the life and times of Mink, the first woman of color in Congress and co-author of the landmark Title IX gender equity legislation, a county news release states.
The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center.
There is no charge to attend the event.
Written, produced and directed by independent Hawai‘i filmmaker Kimberlee Bassford, the film won the Audience Award for Favorite Documentary and was nominated for a Golden Orchid Award for Best Documentary at the 2008 Hawai‘i International Film Festival.
Bassford will be at the premier to introduce her film and will be available for Q&A.
She owns Making Waves Films LLC, a documentary production company in Honolulu, and is known for her passion for social issues and cultural stories.
Bassford is a graduate of Punahou School and holds a BA in psychology from Harvard University and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of California at Berkeley.
