Robert Berton led the charge for the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Warrior golf team on Friday in John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course.
The junior moved up six places from his second round after shooting 2-under 20 on Friday, to finish at 212 (70-72-70) and a tie for 19th place. It was his lowest tournament average of the 2008-09 season.
Lihu‘e’s T.J. Kua was the second highest finisher for the Warriors. He finished the tournament at 214 (68-75-71) and a tie for 31. On Friday, Kua finished at 1-under 71 for the day and 2 under for the tournament.
As a team, the Warriors held the 14th spot throughout the tournament, and finished at 14-over 878.
Other Warriors competing were Kamden Brakel (76-72-76 — 224), Jarred Sawada (78-75-75 — 228) and Pono Calip (79-75-77).
Texas A&M fought hard to overcome Arizona’s six shot lead and win the tournament’s team title at 28-under-par, while Arizona took third place with an 840 total.
Arizona’s Tarquin Macmanus, individual leader going into the third round, fell to New Mexico’s James Erkenbeck who won the individual title by one shot at 11-under-par.
The Warriors head to Fresno next to compete in the Fresno State Lexus Classic, March 9-10.
