Scholarships available
From February 15 through April 1 over 45 college and other post-high school scholarships will be available for eligible applicants through Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation, a non-profit support organization to Kamehameha Schools. Scholarship applications are open to the general public, including students who are not graduates of Kamehameha Schools. The Randy Wayne Ahuna Scholarship for those pursuing a degree in social work, social sciences or ministry and the Native Hawaiian Ho‘okipa Scholarship for those pursuing a leadership career in Hawai‘i’s travel industry are among the newest scholarships being offered for the 2009-2010 academic year. Certain scholarships may require applicants to demonstrate financial need. Select scholarships are also available to individuals who are enrolled on a part-time basis or attending an accredited vocational or trade institution. March 2 is the deadline for students to apply for postsecondary-school scholarships that are available from more than 150 scholarship funds at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. In 2008, the Foundation awarded $5 million to over 1700 students to attend college in Hawai‘i and on the mainland. Each scholarship fund has specific eligibility criteria defined by the donor who created it. Hawai‘i Community Foundation offers scholarships in several categories, from scholarships targeted to specific areas of study, to awards given to students who are members of specific organizations.
