In the 17-team field including seven nationally ranked teams, the Warriors sit in 14th place after shooting a four-over, 292.
Behind Kua is junior Robert Berton, who is currently tied for 20th place after shooting a 70 (-2). Also competing for the Warriors are sophomore Kamden Brakel (76/T76th), freshman Jared Sawada (78/T87th), and freshman Pono Calip (79/90th).
Tarquin Macmanus of Arizona holds the lead after the first round with an 8-under 64. Arizona also holds the lead as team at 276. Hawai‘i in 14th place.
The tournament will conclude on Friday.
Kua was also the top Warrior golfer in the last tournament Hawai‘i played in at theUniversity of Hawai‘i Hilo Invitational at the Mauna Loa Resort North Course in Kamuela on the Big Island.
