Ralph Morehead
Ralph Simpson Morehead died Jan. 17, 2009, in Bend, Ore., at age 81. Born in Great Falls, Mont., he was a retired mechanical engineer.
He is survived by wife Dorothy Allen Morehead of Bend, Ore.; sons Bruce (Angela) Morehead of Po‘ipu and John (Anna) Morehead of Lawa‘i; daughter Diane (Gregory) Barber of Bend, Ore.; mother Dorothy Morehead; brother Richard (Linda) Morehead; sisters Shirley (Dick) Dixon and Carol (Jim) Cox, all of California; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of Ralph’s life was held in Bend, Ore.
Leonard Rapozo
Leonard “Leo” Aloysius Rapozo Sr. of Lihu‘e died Feb. 3, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 67. Born July 27, 1941, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired Tech Sgt. with 150 ACWS, superintendent for Grove Farm Rock Company, bus driver for Hertz, office clerk with Kauai Freight Service, owner of Leo’s Ice House, longtime football official and police commissioner.
He is survived by wife Laola Rapozo; son Lenny (Janine) Rapozo of Lihu‘e; daughters Alison (Kekane) Pa of Lihu‘e, Jewel (Lionel) Asai of Lihu‘e and Monica (Dana) Fatu of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu; grandchildren Machaela, Kelsen, Daniel, Sarah, Samantha, Pua, Reiko, Karla, Daisy and Madison; great-grandchildren Kaili and Kealohi; brothers Stephen “Khaki” Rapozo of Lihu‘e and Gerald (Rosie) Rapozo of Wailua; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church; service begins at 10 a.m. Burial is at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.
Aloha attire is suggested.

Eldon Kohatsu
Eldon Naoto Kohatsu Sr. of Waimanalo and formerly of Lihu‘e died Jan. 27, 2009, at age 59. Born in Honolulu, he was a former Hopaco warehouse manager.
He is survived by sons Eldon Jr. (Rolinda), Brian, Dean (Dayna) and Michael (Lani); daughter Marisa (James) Berardi; father Gary; brothers Wesley and Garrett; sister Sharleen Isoshima; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at Faith Baptist Church in Kailua, 1230 Kailua Rd.; service at 11 a.m. Visitation also from 8 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Aloha Church, 2545 Apapane St. in Lihu‘e; service at 9 a.m.
Private inurnment.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers should be omitted.

Helen Gruenholz
Helen M. Gruenholz of Kapa‘a died on Feb. 8, 2009, at age 96. Born March 10, 1912, she was raised in Chicago and moved to Kaua‘i in 2006.
She was preceded in death by husband William Gruenholz.
She is survived by one brother, three children, five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be private.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Gruenholz family with the arrangements.
Karen Valpoon
Karen Aloma Valpoon of Anahola died Feb. 3, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 62. Born Aug. 20, 1946, in Honolulu, she was a human resources assistant with Hilton Kauai.
She was preceded in death by companion Richard “Dick” Wildman, and parents Amil and Florence Valpoon.
She is survived by brother Amil Tinoa (Beverly) Valpoon of Anahola; sisters Dr. Marie (John) Leekley of Wisconsin and Deborah (Pat) Valpoon-Colman of Anahola; nephews and nieces Ekolu and Nani Valpoon of Hanalei, Mike and Liz Coleman of Moloka‘i, Travis and Alia Coleman of Hanalei, Carla Coleman of Anahola, K.J. Leekley of Honolulu and Tracey Ann Leekley of Wisconsin; grandnieces and grandnephews Teanna and Cody Valpoon, Josh and Cody Maka, Analese, Nadia and Nicki Coleman, Kekai Phetteplace; and uncle Archie, Aaron and Armand Soken of Honolulu.
Visitation from 10 to noon on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Anahola Hawaiian Church; service at noon.
Burial of Karen’s ashes will be done privately at a later date.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers will be accepted.

Kimie Suga
Kimie “Kay” Suga of Waimea died Feb. 4, 2009, at her residence at age 90. Born March 26, 1918, in Kaua‘i, she was a homemaker and a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by husband Ronald I. Suga.
She is survived by children Kathleen (Aaron) Uyeda, Daniel (Blanche) Suga, Ken (Kazuko) Suga; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Masaji Nakagawa of O‘ahu; sisters Hiroko Okada of O‘ahu and Matsuyo Ogata of O‘ahu.
A celebration of life begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Waimea United Church of Christ in Waimea. The family requests no flowers and casual attire.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Catalino Agustin Lagmay
Catalino Agustin Lagmay of Hanapepe died Feb. 8, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 97. Born Nov. 24, 1911, in the Philippines, he retired as a mechanic with Olokele Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by wife Ignacia Bolo Lagmay and daughter Francis Lamadrid.
He is survived by son Dana (Natalia) Lagmay of Lihu‘e, stepsons Fransico (Doris) Alejado of O‘ahu and Robert (Edith) Alejado of O‘ahu, daughter Georgia (Andy) Blom of Virginia, stepdaughters Nora of Lihu‘e and Crescencia Mao of Big Island, 10 grandchildren, 35 step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Viewing is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Sacred Hearts in ‘Ele‘ele; mass at 10 a.m. followed by a luncheon from 11 to 12:30 p.m.
Burial is at 1:15 p.m. at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
