Girls soccer teams head out for states
The Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a girls soccer teams leave this week for the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Girls Division II State Soccer Championships at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Park.
Both the reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions of Kaua‘i (7-0-1) and Kapa‘a (4-3-1) received automatic bids into the tournament. The official seedings for the tournament will be announced after the athletic directors have their pre-tournament meeting on Sunday.
Last year, then KIF champs Kapa‘a were given the No. 3 ranking and the first-round bye. Kaua‘i finished in third place after defeating Campbell 6-0.
This year’s tournament starts on Wednesday and concludes on Saturday.
Jimenez falls short
After breaking a school record at her first meet, Kaua‘i grad and University of Hawai‘i freshman Jamilee Jimenez finished outside of placing at yesterday’s University of Washington Invitational in Seattle. Jimenez competed in the 60 Meter Dash and clocked in with a time of 8.10 in her preliminary heat.
Jimenez finished in the long jump with a distance of 17-feet-3 1/2 inches — 3 1/2 feet off the top finisher from BYU. She was the lone Hawai‘i competitor in both those events.
Hanapepe Youth holds signups
The Hanapepe Youth Baseball Association will be signing up players for its upcoming season starting from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Hanapepe Neighborhood Center.
