HONOLULU – All public schools, including charter schools, are eligible to apply to the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (HSFCA) for grants of up to $6,000 per school for artist residencies to be conducted during the 2009-10 school year.
Schools must use a teaching artist from the HSFCA’s Artistic Teaching Partner (ATP) Roster. A residency consists of five to eight or more sessions by the artist with the same students. The learning experiences must support the Department of Education, Hawai‘i Content and Performance Standards III, Fine Arts Standards.
Schools must contribute 10 percent of the grant amount received, in cash, towards residency expenses. The postmark application deadline is March 9.
Arts education is a top priority in the HSFCA Strategic Plan: “To increase opportunities for arts education and experiences, especially for pre-K-12 grade level students.” In the 2008-09 school year, 88 schools received grants.
