Linda Marquez
Linda Castillo Marquez of Kekaha died Jan. 23, 2009, at her residence at age 61. Born March 18, 1947, in the Philippines, she worked as research assistant with Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. at Waimea Research Center.
She was preceded in death by husband Lucio P. Marquez and father Victoriano Balmores.
She is survived by friend and caregiver Mariano Caranto; brother Ramon (Juanita) Castillo of Waimea; sisters Agustina Bugaoisan of San Jose, Calif., and Juanita Ignacio of the Philippines; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha; Mass begins at 2:30 p.m. and burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

June Hanly
June Wood Hanly of Koloa, formerly of Alameda, Calif., died Jan. 19, 2009, in Honolulu at age 90. Born June 7, 1918, in Alameda, Calif., she was a homemaker and talented artist.
She was preceded in death by husband John F. Hanly.
She is survived by daughter Janet Rasmussen of Koloa.
Inturnment in California will be private. Williams Funeral Home of O‘ahu helped with arrangements.
Lois Sims
Lois Sims of Kilauea died Jan. 26, 2009, at age 86. Born Dec. 31, 1922, in Pennsylvania, she worked as a teacher and homemaker.
She is survived by husband W. Norman Sims of Kilauea; son Dr. Scott Sims, DVM, of Kilauea; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rosalie Bettencourt
Rosalie Ferreira Bettencourt died Jan. 23, 2009, in Honolulu, at age 87. Born July 30, 1921, in Hanama‘ulu, she was a retired personnel manager of F.W. Woolworth in Lihu‘e.
She is survived by husband George Bettencourt; daughters Julie (Thomas) Bettencourt Dick of Centennial, Colo., Carol (Raymond) Bettencourt Gibo of Mililani, O‘ahu, Mary Ann (Kenzie) Bettencourt Griffin of Morrison, Colo., Donna (Kevin) Bettencourt O’Connor of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; brother Alfred (Yoshie) Ferreira; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. during a celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Immaculate Conception Church; Mass will be at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
