Membership applications for the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association are currently being accepted as the organization opens its 2009 season.
HSJGA membership is open to male and female golfers who are between the agest of 7 and 18 and have not reached their 19th birthday, or have not entered college.
Applicants must also demonstrate a basic understanding of the game, states a HSJGA release.
The annual membership fee is $35 and covers the period from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. Included in the fee are a Membership Handbook, a one year USGA Junior Membership, college workshops, instructional clinics, rules workshops, 2009 Rules of Golf book, a bag tag, GHIN handicap donated by the HSGA and USGA, and participation in the activities and programs of the HSJGA.
The HSJGA mission is to promote the game of golf for juniors of all ages and skill levels, including racial and ethnic minorities and those who are financially disadvantaged throughout the state.
The organization does this by providing golf opportunities including introductory, educational, rules, etiquette and competitive programs for all juniors.
Juniors will be exposed to opportunities that teach responsibility, develop qualities of leadership and integrity to become productive members of the adult community through the HSJGA program.
Juniors will also gain opportunities to travel and participate in state and national tournaments.
Aside from golf, HSJGA members will be able to attend free college workshops that will help to assist with the preparation for higher education opportunities.
Membership applications are available by visiting the HSJGA Web site at www.hsjga.org.
