Ka‘eo Kruse, swimming in the Boys 9-10 division, was one of the leaders following the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics meet last weekend.
Kruse was one of three SKA swimmers posting qualifying times. In addition, nine swimmers posted Hawai‘i-AA times, 11 swimmers earned Hawai‘i-A times and 15 swimmers marked Hawai‘i-B times.
Kruse finished the meet picking up two state qualifying times and two HIAA times. His first qualifying time came in the 100 Yard Individual Medley where he stopped the clock at 1:29.62, an improvement over his seeded time of 1:31.75 in the event. His second qualifying event came in the 100 Yard Backstroke where he stopped the clock at 1:26.13.
Kruse’s HIAA events came in the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 50 Yard Butterfly where he posted times of 1:48.87 and 41.87, respectively.
Bryson Baligad finished with a qualifying time in the Boys 11-12 500 Yard Freestyle event on a 6:24.58 swim and added three HIAA times to his folder as well, the HIAA events coming in the 100 Yard Breastroke where he stopped the clocks at 1:29.11, almost three seconds better than his seeded time of 1:32.68. He posted HIAA times in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:20.23) and the 50 Yard Freestyle (30.80).
Justin White was the final SKA swimmer to achieve a qualifying time in the Boys 11-12 500 Yard Freestyle event where he posted a 6:25.77 swim, shaving off chunks of time from his 6:53.51 seeded time in the event. White also posted three HIAA times in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (12:29.05), the 50 Yard Freestyle (33.18) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:30.15).
Kate Machorek, swimming in the Girls 11-12 division, finished with three HIAA times and a HI-A time. Kate’s HIAA events included the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:43.06), the 50 Yard Freestyle (31.46) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:22.27) with her HI-A event coming in the 100 Yard Backstroke where she posted a 1:33.96 swim, an improvement over her 1:41.21 seeded time in that event.
Jack Machorek, swimming in the Boys 8 and Under class, posted four HIAA times in the 50 Yard Backstroke (44.94), 100 Yard Individual Medley (1:33.19), the 50 Yard Breaststroke (51.97) and the 200 Yard IM (3:28.49).
Maliana Kaui, swimming in the Girls 9-10 division, finished with four HIAA times in the 50 Yard Backstroke (42.94), the 100 Yard IM (1:33.19), the 50 Yard Butterfly (39.34, and the 200 Yard IM (3:21.00). Kaui posted improvements in both IM events where she shaved off almost two seconds in the 100 IM (1:35.68) and more than 10 seconds off her 200 IM (3:33.61) seeded times.
Kea Sullivan, swimming in the Girls 13-14 division, picked up two HIAA times and two HI-A times. Sullivan’s HIAA events included the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:40.31) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:16.04) and her HI-A times included the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:36.68) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:09.02).
Tyler Keith, participating in the Boys 11-12 division picked up an HIAA time as well as an HI-A time and two HI-B times in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:34.80) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:37.00) where he shaved almost five seconds off his seeded time of 1:41.62. His HI-A time came in the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:14.77) where he showed an improvement over his seeded time of 1:25.09, and his HIAA time came in the 50 Yard Freestyle (32.86) where he showed a four-second improvement over his seeded time of 36.62.
Sophie Britzmann, a Girls 13-14 swimmer, rounded out the SKA swimming leaders with an HIAA time and three HI-A times. Britzmann’s HIAA event came in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:27.40) and her HI-A times came in the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:36.28), 200 Yard Breaststroke and the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:24.50) where she posted a two-second improvement over her seeded time.
In addition to the leaders, Quinn Hannah-White posted three HI-A times, Jazmyn Ibaan Carvalho nailed an HI-A time and two HI-B times and James Papa nailed two HI-A times and an HI-B time.
Kaci Jarry posted an HI-A and a HI-B time, Blaise Thompson finished with an HI-A and two HI-B times and Amber Hopkins picked up an HI-A and two HI-B times.
Additionally, Kaitlyn Rogers, Lahela Naea, Asa Hendrickson, Race Nakamura, Ava Zebzda, Lilly Thompson, Aeryn Austin-El Baz and Teva Law posted HI-B times.
