Patricia Ewing
Patricia Ann Ewing died Jan. 16, 2009, at her home in Ha‘ena. Born Aug. 2, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was a volunteer at Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church.
She is survived by husband Ty Ewing; son Ricky Ewing and Robin; one grandson; sister Betty; brother-in-law Gary Becker of San Diego, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Rose Ewing of Moloka‘i; and five nieces.
A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Wai‘oli Hui’ia Church in Hanalei. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m.; service begins at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Kaua‘i Hospice or Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church.
Cardenio Tolentino
Cardenio Ancheta Tolentino Sr. of Hanama‘ulu died Jan. 21, 2009, at his home in Hanama‘ulu at age 66. He was born Jan. 10, 1943, in the Philippines.
He was preceded in death by wife Evelyn Tolentino.
He is survived by mother Laurencia Tolentino; sons Cardenio (Liezl) Tolentino and Rizaldy (Janent) Tolentino; daughter Lilibeth (Dennis) Alfonso; five grandchildren; sisters Lydia (Isidro) Bernardo, Rosenda (Domindor) Tumamao, Virgie (Carlos) Bernardo, Remy (Michael) Inouye, Linda (Resty) Bernardo, Francing (John Paul) Taylor; brothers Dominador (Medina) Tolentino, Danny Tolentino, Narciso Tolentino, Mamerto (Helly) Tolentino Jr., Juanito (Cathy) Tolentino; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa, and again from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa; services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Edward Coan
Edward M. Coan of Lihu‘e died Jan. 18, 2009, at age 85. Born Jan. 25, 1923, in New York, he was a retired electrical engineer from RCA Service Company and Raytheon.
He is survived by wife Barbara Coan of Lihu‘e; sons Edward J. (Kiyoko) Coan of Wailua, Michael J. Coan of Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughters Alison (Keith) Dibble of Brooklin, Maine, Annette Coan of Yonkers, N.Y., and Susan Coan of Puhi; sister Sarah (Ernest) Acheson of York, Maine; and two grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, at the Lihue Lutheran Church with visitation from 9 a.m and services beginning at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at the Lihue Lutheran Church cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Coan family with arrangements.
Linda Richardson
Linda Richardson of Princeville died Jan. 11, 2009, at her residence in Princeville at age 62. Born in Waimanalu, O‘ahu, she worked in catering and was a home sitter.
She was preceded in death by son Royden Villanueva; and brothers Robert Collins, Warren Collins, Johnny Romero, Steven Collins and David Collins.
She is survived by son Troy (Hennie) Villanueva; daughter Michaline (Karl) Kunewa; stepdaughter Jonilyn (Gary) Garza; hanai daughter Ipo Ruaboro; stepsons Jerriett Villanueva, Michael Villanueva; sisters Gloria Romero Bender, Harriett Hoopi‘i; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church.
Casual attire is suggested.

Lloyd Narito
Lloyd Narito of Kapa‘a, formerly of Pearl City, O‘ahu, died Jan. 18, 2009, at age 50. Born in Wahiawa, O‘ahu, he worked for Kaua‘i County Parks and Recreation.
He was preceded in death by mother Adela Narito.
He is survived by wife Rosemarie Narito; father Selbistre Narito; sisters Stephanie (Nick) Sites, Selena (David) Kalahiki and Amanda Narito; and brothers Stanley (Abby) Narito and Jason Narito.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Saint Catherine’s Church; Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Burial to follow.

Ann Okamoto
Ann Nobuko Okamoto of Waimea died Jan. 16, 2009, at Kauai Care Center at age 86. Born Aug. 31, 1922, in Kekaha, she was a senior citizen health aide with Kaua‘i County.
She is survived by son Harris (Kathleen) Okamoto of California, daughter Merle (Patrick) Fukuda of O‘ahu, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister Takako Ogata of Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private.

Jose Bernal
Jose B. Bernal of Hanama‘ulu died Jan. 5, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 90. Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Bangued, Abra, Philippines, he was a crew chief with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by wife Beatrice Tsugie Bernal.
He is survived by sons Earnest (Linda) of Waipahu, Melvin of Honolulu and Rory of Hanama‘ulu; daughters Allegra (Sisenando Jr.) Antolin of Pearl City, O‘ahu and Suzanne (Fred) Yamane of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Bill Bernal and Jesus Piscosa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.

Kaoru Higashigender
Kaoru Higashigender of Kapa‘a died Jan. 7, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 92. She was born April 17, 1916, in Ewa, Hawai‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Koichi Higashi.
She is survived by son Clarence Y. Higashi (Joyce) of Lihu‘e, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister Kazue Turner of Honolulu; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private.

Myrtle Napoleon
Myrtle C. Napoleon of Waipouli died Jan. 9, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 81. Born in Lihu‘e, she was a laborer in the construction industry.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Napoleon; son-in-law Tom Harper and sister-in-law Mercy Contrades.
She is survived by daughter Healani “Lovey” Harper; sons Lester (Richard) Contrades, Frank (Jennifer) Napoleon and Napela (Beverly) Napoleon; brothers Peter (Anita) Contrades, Ervin Contrades, Wademar (Patsy) Contrades, Daniel (Chic) Contrades, Joseph (Pinky) Contrades; sisters Imogene (John) Richards, Alicia (Tony) Fernandez; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at Lihue First Hawaiian Church. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; services to follow.
