Kaua‘i’s Jesse Merle-Jones sits tied for seventh place on the Association of Surfing Professional’s World Qualifying Series Tour after his fourth-place finish in his quarterfinal heat at the Sebastian Inlet Pro in Florida.
The Sebastian Inlet Pro was the first event of the 2009 ASP WQS season, with all of the series’ competitors striving to earn points towards qualification for the prestigious ASP World Tour the following year.
Merle-Jones earned 919 for his finish at the event, 581 points off the Sebastian Pro winner Nathan Curran who earned 1,500 points and $12,000. According to the WQS ratings, Merle-Jones earned $1,800.
Fellow Kaua‘i surfer Dylan Goodale also surfed the event and is currently tied with 15 others who earned 375 points at the Sebastian Inlet Pro and $700.
The Sebastian Inlet Pro started on Jan. 12 and was completed on Sunday.
Next up for the men on the qualifying tour is the Copa Movistar Pro in San Bartolo, Lima, Peru, with the holding period starting on Friday.
