Anna Creal
Anna Marie Creal died Jan. 14, 2009, in Lihu‘e at age 70. She was born Aug. 1, 1938, in New Jersey.
She is survived by husband William Creal, daughter Carolyn Booth, son Richard Booth Sr., grandsons Rick and Paul, great-grandchildren Pohakala and Mary Jane, brother Louis Gallo and family, and sister Frieda Darling and family.
Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Immaculate Conception. A celebration of life will follow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Aloha Kauai Pizza at the Coconut Marketplace.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Kaua‘i Food Bank, 3285 Waapa Road, Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i 96766-8614.
Patricia Ann Ewing
Patricia Ann Ewing died Jan. 16, 2009, at her home in Ha‘ena. Born Aug. 2, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was a volunteer at Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church.
She is survived by husband Ty Ewing; son Ricky Ewing and Robin; one grandson; sister Betty; brother-in-law Gary Becker of San Diego, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Rose Ewing of Moloka‘i; and five nieces.
A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Wai‘oli Hui’ia Church in Hanalei. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m.; service begins at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to Kaua‘i Hospice or Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church.
Lucy Moreno
Lucy Moreno of Princeville died Jan. 18, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born in Santa Rita, N.M., she was a retired sheriff, teacher and restaurant manager.
She was preceded in death by husband Tom Moreno and daughters Lucille Moreno and Geri Moreno.
She is survived by sons Tom Moreno and Martin Moreno, daughter Toni Hayes, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life will be held.

Bessie Agnes Bartlett
Bessie Agnes (McKenzie) Bartlett of Sheridan, Mont., formerly of Lihu‘e, died on Dec. 30, 2008, at St. James Healthcare in Butte, Mont., at age of 87. Born Aug. 28, 1921, in Ennis, Mont., Bessie worked for Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by husband Claude “Bart” Bartlett, parents, sister, and brother Bud.
She is survived by daughter Claudia “Polly” of Butte; son Marc of Hawai‘i; grandchildren Clinton (Cynthia) Owen of Kaua‘i, Matthew Owen of Butte, Rory Agosto of Kaua‘i, Megan Agosto of Butte; great-grandchildren Cody, Cassandra, Caitlyn and Colton of Kaua‘i, and Madison of Kentucky; stepdaughters JoAnn (Joe) Hyde of Arizona and Christine (Rob) Bittner of New Mexico; brothers Dan (Dollie) McKenzie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Clarence (Margaret) McKenzie of Columbia Falls, Mont., Ben (Ann) McKenzie of Canon City, Colo., Byron (Gayle) McKenzie of Allyn, Wash.; sister Carol (Lester) Braach of Sheridan; sister-in-law Maxine McKenzie of Alamagordo, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Sheridan on Monday, January 5, at 11 a.m. A military burial will take place in the spring at the Sheridan Cemetery, and a memorial service will be held on Kaua‘i in June 2009.
Myrtle Napoleon
Myrtle C. Napolean of Waipouli died Jan. 9, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 81. Born in Lihu‘e, she was a laborer in the construction industry.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Napoleon; son-in-law Tom Harper and sister-in-law Mercy Contrades.
She is survived by daughter Healani “Lovey” Harper; sons Lester (Richard) Contrades, Frank (Jennifer) Napoleon and Napela (Beverly) Napoleon; brothers Peter (Anita) Contrades, Ervin Contrades, Wademar (Patsy) Contrades, Daniel (Chic) Contrades, Joseph (Pinky) Contrades, Imogene (John) Richards, Alicia (Tony) Fernandez; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at Lihu‘e First Hawaiian Church. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; services to follow.
Helen Ellis
Helen K. “Bobbi” Ellis of Lihu‘e died Jan. 17, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 65. Born Sept. 6, 1943, in Lihu‘e, she was a retired executive secretary for the Kauai Surf, The Westin Kauai and Kauai Marriott.
She was preceded in death by parents Wayne and Helen Rice Ellis; brothers Wayne “Rick” Ellis, Michael (Stephanie) Ellis, one niece and three nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Lihue Cemetery.
