Hats off to the “next generation” of Boy Scouts! Scoutmasters Lyle Tabata and Myles Uyesono were out with the scouts of Troop 148 doing an overnight backpack hike and cleaned up the Maha‘ulepu Beach. Lyle said they are preparing for a Mainland trip and after cleaning the beach even had a nice bonfire with all the opala.
Actually, the trip was to try and find Eddie Abubo, who is doing location work for a National Geographic film crew (the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association knew all about that), but when the road gets too bumpy and filled with puddles, it’s time to head to the rodeo. Eddie said he would supply photos to Art Umezu, who was scheduled to make an appearance later Sunday afternoon.
Sunday was a great day for whales (ever see a rodeo with whales blowing and breaching in the background?) and that means the Ocean Count is coming up pretty soon. Bev Pang was thinking of volunteering for this, but needs to check with Jean Souza on the training schedule.
Hats off to Annaleah Atkinson, who did a great job organizing the Martin Luther King Day celebration, and kudos to Ron Wiley for getting everyone excited about Barack Obama’s inauguration, too. Too bad Jonelle Kaohelaulii had to attend meetings so had to miss the event.
OK, time to head west again…it’s basketball at the Clem Gomes.
