Elizabeth Kamala
Elizabeth “Cubby” Jane Kamala of Kapa‘a died Dec. 20, 2008, at her residence in Kapa‘a at the age of 55. Born in California, she was a retired nurse at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by sister Beverly Simpson and brother William Hobart Simpson Jr.
She is survived by parents William Hobart and Billie Jeanne Simpson, daughter Ursula (David) Torres, son James Langtad and sister Bonnie (Will) Berndt; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and hanai family.
A celebration of life will be held at noon on Sunday, Jan. 18, at Anini Beach.

Nancy Suzuko Sakata of Kalaheo died Dec. 19, 2008, at Straub Clinic & Hospital at age 73. Born Jan. 1, 1935, in Kona, Hawai‘i, she was a retired bank teller with First Hawaiian Bank.
She is survived by husband Itsuo Sakata; son Burt Sakata of Kalaheo; daughters Shari Sakata Imano of Honolulu; Alison Sakata of Kalaheo; two Grandchildren; brother Francis Iwamoto of Kona, Hawai‘i; sisters Alice Nakamura of Honolulu, Lily Iguchi of Kona, Hawai‘i, Hannah Okimoto of Kona, Hawai‘i, Mabel Tam of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.

Marilyn Sales Cadiz of Pukalani, Maui, died Jan. 9, 2009, at Maui Memorial Medical Center at age 47. Born Feb. 5, 1961, in Wailuku, she was a former clerk for Maui Seaside Hotel.
She is survived by husband Leo Cadiz; daughters Lea Cadiz, Liane Cadiz, Liana “Lenny” Cadiz and Lindsey Cadiz; brother Max Galiciano; and sisters Loretta Domingo and Rose Libres.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Door of Faith Church in Wailuku; service begins at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted.
Arrangements are being handled by Ballard Family Mortuary.
Albert Pia
Albert Pia of Hanama‘ulu died Jan.14, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 88. Born in Hawai‘i, he was a retired laborer in the construction industry.
He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. George Aki, the Aki ‘ohana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary in Koloa, and at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at Diamond Head Cemetery in Honolulu.
Shoichi Tsubakihara
Shoichi Tsubakihara of ‘Oma‘o died Jan. 13, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 79. Born Jan. 2, 1930, in Lawa‘i, he was a retired aero space engineer with Hughes Aircraft Co.
He is survived by wife Evelyn Tsubakihara; son Ryan Tsubakihara of ‘Oma‘o; daughters Shari (Gerald) Allen and Lisa (Glenn) Mahelona, both of Lakewood, Calif.; four grandchildren; brother Larry Tsubakihara; and sister Fay (Matt) Iuli of Virginia.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery Pavilion; service begins at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Kimberly Ann Rapozo, 33, along with infant son Colin James Rapozo died Dec. 27, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev. Kimberly was a forensic lab manager for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deparment.
They are survived by husband and father Jasaon Rapozo; parents and grandparents Wayne and Stephanie Rapozo; family members Anthony and Lucas Rapozo; great-grandparents Lucas and Daisy Rapozo; and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A funeral Mass was held Jan. 6, 2009, at St. Liborius Catholic Church.
Frank Souza
Frank “Kinky” Souza of Wailua died Jan. 8, 2009, in Honolulu at age 75. Born Jan. 18, 1933, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired police officer from Kaua‘i County.
He was preceded in death by parents Manuel and Emma Souza; siblings Leilani “Honey” Sanchez, Clarence Souza Sr. and Judy Ryder.
He is survived by wife Emily Souza of Wailua; son Kurt (Terry) Souza of Lihu‘e; daughter Penny (Bully) Balocan of Wailua; Pakiko and Hina of Wailua; sister Gertrude “Sweetie” Johnson of California; brothers Antone “Sonny”(Queenie) Souza of Lihu‘e, Edward “Eddie” (Yvonne) Souza of Kalaheo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. during a celebration of his life on Saturday, Jan. 31, at The Kauai Veterans Center in Lihu‘e; services begin at 10:45 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Souza family with arrangements.
