Martha Chow
Martha Huddy Chow of Kapa‘a died Jan. 4, 2009, at her home in Wailua Houselots at the age of 74. Born March 2, 1934, in Hanama‘ulu, she was a longtime employee of Kauai Surf at the Westin and retired from Esaki’s Produce.
She was preceded in death by husband Kenneth Ah-Tuck Chow; parents Charles Kahale and Mary (Garcia) Huddy; brothers Abraham, Samuel, Walter and George Huddy; and sister Mary (Huddy) Wong.
She is survived by daughters Lyndelle (Tommy) Makanani and Darlene (George) Thronas; sons Ken Chow, Clayton (Kim) Chow and Michael (Malia) Chow; hanai daughter Cheryl Doi Kuriki; sister Eliza Huddy; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church; services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.

Mary-Jo Wilson
Mary-Jo Wilson died Jan. 5, 2009, in Blythe, Calif., at the age of 87. Born May 7, 1921, in Arkansas, she was the former owner of Koke‘e Lodge.
She was preceded in death by husband William-Penn “Bill” Wilson.
She is survived by daughter Joann Wilson Morrison and grandchildren Georgia, Tina, Vicky and Corrina of Blythe, Calif.; son Jack (Glenda) Wilson and grandchildren Candy and Chris of Blythe, Calif.; son John “Pancho” (Elly) Wilson; stepson Bart, Elvira, Giselle and Ian Petterson of Sequim, Wash.; Mary-Jo’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren from John “Pancho” Wilson (Amore Camara) are Randall Ioane (Bobbie) Wilson and their children Rancee, Kaimana, Lanakila, Lilinoe Wilson of Lihu‘e; daughter Xann Maile (Mike) Kuenzil and their children Kainoa and Kaimi Kuenzli of Battleground, Wash.; son John Kawika Wilson of Hanapepe and his children Saraiah and Kawika Wilson of Texas; daughter Cherie-Amore Wilson and her children Alana and Ho‘onanea Griep-Wilson of Hanapepe; son David Kealii (Maile) Wilson and their children Isaiah and Hi‘ilani Wilson of Hanapepe.
A celebration of her life will be held in her hometown of Blythe, Calif. The date is yet to be determined and services will be private.

Robert Goodwin
Robert H. Goodwin of Anahola died Jan. 6, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Waimea, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by wife Barbara Goodwin; sons Robert Goodwin Jr., William Goodwin and Tracy Goodwin; stepdaughters Darlene Pa, Sandra Kaina and Clarenza Brown; stepson Eugene Kaina Jr.; sisters Margaret Akana, Aletha Kaohi and Elizabeth Gulstan Silva; 59 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Anahola Beach.

Martin Manaday
Martin Manaday of Lihu‘e died Jan. 2, 2009, at the age of 75 after battling lung cancer for more than two years. Born March 14, 1933, in Waimanalo, Hawai‘i, he retired as a boiling house superintendent in 2001 for Gay & Robinson Inc.
He is preceded in death by parents Carlos Manaday and Valentina Alejandro Manaday, and sisters Rosalia Manaday (Ruperto) Fontanilla and Pacita Manaday (Robert) Boro.
He is survived by wife Eleanora Sabala Manaday; children Judith Ann Manaday (Nicholas) Solovieff of Vallejo, Calif., Russell (Suncha) Manaday of Indianapolis, Ind., Wesley Manaday of Boston, Mass., and Alison Manaday (Kevin) Brown of Danville, Calif.; grandchildren Jennifer Manaday (Charlie) Pilkington of Fayetteville, N.C., Jonathan Manaday of Indianapolis, Ind., Emily Solovieff of Long Beach, Calif., Alexander Solovieff of Vallejo, Calif., Joanna Brown of Davis, Calif., and Rachel Brown of Danville, Calif.; sisters Felisa Manaday (Tsuneo) Taguma of Pearl City, Hawai‘i, Solidad Manaday (Genaro) Lagazo of Kekaha, Andria Manaday of Hanama‘ulu and Maximina Manaday (Albert) Carveiro of Kaumakani; brother Steven (Nette) Manaday of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.on Saturday, Jan. 10; eulogy will be delivered at 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Internment will be private.

Alfredo Garces
Alfredo Cabebe Garces Sr. of Kealia died Dec. 19, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. He was born in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, and retired from the Lihue Sugar Plantation as a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by brothers Rufo (Consuelo) Garces, Cipriano (Maria) Garces and Marcelo Garces; and sister Eugenia Garces.
He is survived by wife Crescensia Garces of Kealia; children Avelina (Rodrigo) Visitacion of Seattle, Wash., Alfredo (Jacqueline) Garces Jr. of Wailua, Jovita Garces of Kealia, Edwin (Dolly) Garces of Kealia; sister-in-law Ceceria Garces; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. during a celebration of his life held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall; services begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Herman Bacle
Herman Kanani Bacle of Puhi died Dec. 28, 2008, at the age of 54. Born July 14, 1954, in Koloa, he was a bus driver/mechanic for Akita’s Enterprise.
He was preceded in death by parents William and Leilani Bacle; sisters Ceceila, Elsie and Honey Bun Bacle; stepfather Ceriaco Toledo; and William Bacle Jr.
He is survived by wife Donna Texeira, sons Kaipo Texeira and Kanani (Shaz) Bacle, daughter Summer (Linda) Texeira, sister Grace (Annette) Bacle, brother Miki (Leah) Toledo, three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Po‘ipu Beach Park for a celebration of Herman’s life.
