Girls: Kapa‘a 10, Waimea 0; Boys: Kapa‘a 5, Waimea 0 – KAPA‘A — Kapa‘a High School’s boys and girls soccer team got a clean sweep of Waimea High School yesterday at their home field at the New Kapa‘a Town Park Stadium.
Kapa‘a’s girls defeated winless Waimea 10-0, while in the later game, Kapa‘a’s boys won 5-0.
The games were originally scheduled for Hanapepe Stadium with the boys taking the field first, but the venue was changed prior to the season just before it was to debut. The boys’ game was also moved to the evening time slot to allow members of Waimea’s soccer team who were also on the basketball team to leave early and play in their regular season debut in Waimea.
Kapa‘a’s girls scored as early as the 12th minute of the game and as late as the 77th. Seri Niimi-Birch put the Warriors on the board first, scoring her first of three goals on the night.
Megan Souza followed that up, scoring her first of two goals on a penalty kick.
Kapa‘a was up 5-0 at the half and continued on its run through the second with two goals each from Kalia Mayer and Kaimaile Zirker and the final goal from Ashlie Camat.
Kapa‘a’s boys got a boost from their leading scorer Ikaika Fuerte who finished with three goals yesterday. Fuerte scored in the fifth minute of the match which was followed a minute later by a goal from Kaisen Carrillo. Fuerte would score consecutive goals in the second half and Ekolu Yam closed out the game with the final game.
No results were reported for Island School and Kaua‘i High School’s early exhibition match.
