Six people were injured in a six-car accident near Kukui Grove Center at around 2:42 yesterday afternoon in Lihu‘e.
The victims were taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment. Their current condition was unknown at press time, although none sustained life-threatening injuries, a county news release states.
Four vehicles were waiting to make a left turn onto Kaumuali‘i Highway from Kalepa Street when a westbound vehicle heading toward the Kalepa Street junction slammed into the last of the four vehicles, rolled over and landed on a car that had just turned right onto Kalepa Street from Kaumuali‘i Highway, according to a preliminary report.
The initial accident also caused the vehicles waiting at the Kalepa Street junction to rear-end each other.
Police said that speed appears to be a factor in this accident.
Law enforcement responded to a one-car accident some 30 minutes later at the nearby intersection of Pikake Street and Nawiliwili Road. No injuries were reported in that incident.
