Martin Manaday of Lihu‘e died Jan. 2, 2009, at the age of 75 after battling lung cancer for more than two years. Born March 14, 1933, in Waimanalo, Hawai‘i, he retired from C. Brewer & Company as the boiling house superintendent.
He was preceded in death by parents Carlos Manaday and Valentina Alejandro Manaday, and sisters Rosalia Manaday (Ruperto) Fontanilla and Pacita Manaday (Robert) Boro.
He is survived by wife Eleanora Sabala Manaday; children Judith Ann Manaday (Nicholas) Solovieff of Vallejo, Calif., Russell (Sun Cha) Manaday of Indianapolis, Ind., Wesley Manaday of Boston, Mass., and Alison Manaday (Kevin) Brown of Danville, Calif.; grandchildren Jennifer Manaday (Charlie) Pilkington of Fayetteville, N.C., Jonathan Manaday of Indianapolis, Ind., Emily Solovieff of Long Beach, Calif., Alexander Solovieff of Vallejo, Calif., Joanna Brown of Davis, Calif., and Rachel Brown of Danville, Calif.; sisters Felisa Manaday (Tsuneo) Taguma of Pearl City, Hawai‘i, Solidad Manaday (Genaro) Lagazo of Kekaha, Andria Manaday of Hanama‘ulu, Maximina Manaday (Albert) Carveiro of Kaumakani; brother Steven (Nette) Manaday of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (eulogy will be delivered at 10 a.m.) on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo; funeral Mass to follow. Internment will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
