The University of Hawai‘i cheer squad came out with spirit and one of their own atop a surfboard. But they also came out on top overall as Hawai‘i won the first-ever “RAH! Paula Abdul’s Cheerleading Bowl,” the reality-show that debuted last night on MTV.
The new reality show followed eight of the nation’s top cheerleading squads, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look into what the cheerleaders went through as they competed in a number of challenges which included eliminations.
The 90-minute show was filmed in November in New York City.
Cheer teams from the University of Arizona, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Miami of Ohio also competed. Hawai‘i and the University of Montana were the finalists.
Hawai‘i has now won a feature in American Cheer Magazine and a trip to MTV’s Spring Break 2009.
The show took place at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York and was attended by university students and a few celebrity guest. There were three judges and Abdul.
The special will be rebroadcast today at 9:30 a.m. on MTV.
