WAILUA — A visitor Thursday afternoon discovered the body of a Caucasian man at the bottom of Wailua Falls, a day after the body of another Caucasian man was found at the base of a waterfall near ‘Anini Stream.
The two events are reportedly unrelated, but county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said yesterday that investigations are still under way for each incident.
“It’s unusual for something like this to happen so close together,” she said.
Ken D’Attilio, owner and operator of Inter-Island Helicopters, responded to the call in Air-1 along with the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Rescue 3 and Engine 3.
“We got the call late Thursday after a couple visiting the island found the body,” D’Attilio said yesterday. “It was already getting dark by the time the body was airlifted out.”
Names are being withheld pending positive identification by next of kin. Daubert said the family of the man found on the North Shore is set to arrive on island soon from the Mainland to identify the body.
The cause of each death has not yet been determined, but authorities do not suspect foul play.
