Kapa‘a Middle School’s ‘Aloha begins with us’
Members of Kapa‘a Middle School’s Student Council were inspired after attending an “Aloha Begins with Me” gathering at Kaua‘i Community College in November. Students shared ideas with Kauai’s older generations on how to strengthen the aloha spirit. As a result, student council members created a themed Christmas celebration event called “Aloha begins with us.” At the event students and staff from Kapa‘a Middle School brought items to donate to Salvation Army. Clothes, toys, books, canned goods, cards and cash donations were collected to help others in need on Kaua‘i.
In conjunction with collecting the donated items at the Christmas celebration, the school choir and ukulele band performed under the direction of Kaua‘i Teacher of the Year Mary Lardizabal.
The “Aloha begins with us” event was a great success and an abundance of items were collected for the Salvation Army. To learn how to add “Aloha begins with me” to a school curriculum contact Beth Tokioka from the County of Kaua‘i at 241-4913.
