4 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 14
A new Business Management course will be offered at Kaua‘i Community College. It is designed to train persons in the skills of leadership and management needed to create new systems of food production and distribution.
The Business Management component of the program begins Jan. 14 and will meet on Wednesdays for 12 sessions. The tuition is $150. Scholarship assistance is available to qualified candidates.
The program seeks to prepare leaders and workers who can participate in creating new systems of local food production based on the values of mutual respect and cooperation.
The principal topics include: Rebuilding Kaua‘i’s food industry from the ground up, employee recruitment and training, team building, supervising and empowering personnel, managing money and operations, effective marketing, advertising and sales programs, negotiating business agreements, and applying leadership skills to achieve genuine business success.
The program will also teach skills of community engagement, learning to expand incrementally, developing and improving operating and control systems, applying evaluation systems that build a strategy for future growth and, finally, understanding why ethics are important for sustainability in the marketplace.
