Defends Pflueger
I write this letter to defend the honor of Jimmy Pflueger. I have known Jimmy for almost 50 years and I have always held him in high respect.
Unfortunately, during the past few years, Jimmy Pflueger has become a convenient target by government agencies that want to avert the blame over water quality issues and a tragic loss of life caused by the breach of the Kaloko Dam. The dam issue is still under investigation and I do not wish to comment on that.
The truth is that his property at Pila‘a is one of the most environmentally beautiful and well managed properties in the state of Hawai‘i. For this reason, it is often used as background landscape for Hollywood films.
But, there is much more to my 50 years of knowing Jimmy Pflueger. The many friends and families that he has generously helped financially over the years are too many to list. Jimmy Pflueger is also an icon in the history of surfing and other water and land sports in Hawai‘i. Jimmy Pflueger should be proud of his life achievements and I am saddened that recent events and media distortions forget and distort his lifetime of productive achievements that have been so beneficial to Hawai‘i. To me, Jimmy Pflueger has a heart of gold and I know how sad he must feel about the Kaloko Dam tragedy.
I’m confident the truth of what happened will vindicate his good name.

Brats on airlines and disrespectful parents
I agree totally with not letting the 10 juveniles from 1 to 10 years old, and the adults (parents ) return on their original airline company back to LAX.
Also, they would forfeit any airfare fees for the return.
These people have not an ounce of respect for anyone else, and no control or discipline. Or any clue as to their responsibility as parents. Booze dregs to kids … clever.
I doubt very much if this was the first time this family was allowed to run amok annoying the rest of the planet.
Then when counseled by a Kauai Police Department officer, they were all polite and took no responsibility, saying that their 10 kids got “restless.”
On landing, they made “nice-nice” with the KPD, but never thought to control their brats, or take any responsibility, or even apologize to the flight crew or other passengers.
Not only should they be banned from returning on American Airlines, but their names published, and wherever they had accommodations the resort warned as to what to expect.
This is after the fellow from Idaho beats on two female flight attendants, and was forcibly subdued by passengers.
Maybe an example and zero tolerance policy should come into effect, and discipline any of these outbursts and problem passengers. None of this wimping out, and letting ‘em go.
Stand up American, please, pull their tickets and no refund. Feds, lock any attacker up, and no bail. Slams till trial.

Humane Society and feral animals
Ten months ago, my girlfriend and I befriended a shy, traumatized cat that showed up to our home. We named him “Biggs.” With nurturing and trusting, his fear turned to happy purrs as he joined our other two cats, hanai’d to our family. About a month ago, while we were on the Mainland, Biggs was erroneously trapped by a distant neighbor and taken to the humane society. On my return, a week later, I wondered where he was, and a few days ago, found out where he ended up.
Upon visiting Kauai Humane Society, we were informed after much persistence, that he was deemed feral. He was judged either injured or hostile, and put to sleep two days after being brought in. This was a most kind-hearted, passive, and once again, traumatized cat.
This is not an isolated event, as a hula sister just told us. A hanai’d friendly dog malama’d by their neighborhood was taken to be neutered at KHS by her, and instead it was euthanized without warning her.
We have been informed of an internal philosophy of a KHS decision-maker to be on a feral animal eradication mission.
Hasty errors in judgment are being made. Public, please be aware what may lie at the end of a visit from the dogcatcher humane society. Please live up to your name for all animals entrusted to you.
As pet stewards, our lesson learned is to put a microchip in any hanai’d pet ASAP.
For your unheard plea, Biggs.
