The Afterburners picked up their second straight win and hat tricks by Duncan MacDonald and Michael Chamberlain led Kryptonite to its first win, Sunday.
Goals in each half gave the Afterburners its 2-0 edge over Hanalei in the nightcap. Earlier, Kryptonite redeemed their loss to the Afterburners last week to take an 8-0 shutout over the Canefire.
Drew DesMarias broke a 0-0 defensive slugfest with the Afterburners’ only score of the first half in the 15th minute.
Playing short with just eight players to Hanalei’s 10 players on the field, Afterburners got their insurance goal in the second half when Ashley Vidinha fired a rocket to the back of the net.
MacDonald started the Kryptonite scoring joined by newcomer Adrian Corpuz and Chamberlain icing the 3-0 halftime lead over Canefire.
A MacDonald free kick for a score opened the second half and Pedro Rupert got the assist on a score that came when MacDonald flicked the ball over the Canefire goalkeeper for the 5-0 margin.
Rupert came through with a second assist, passing to Chamberlain who pocketed the shot.
Kamalei Pihana, a newcomer to the Kaua‘i Mens Soccer Association league, chalked up the assist on Chamberlain’s third goal before netting a goal of his own that came when Pihana dribbled past the Canefire defense.
With the win, the Afterburners (2-0) host Canefire starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow at Vidinha Stadium. The nightcap has Kryptonite taking on Hanalei starting at 8 p.m.
