PO‘IPU — The magic of children combined with the songs of the season Friday morning at the Sheraton Kaua‘i.
“It’s a Christmas Carol Fest,” said one excited parent accompanying the Koloa Early School students who converged at the Shells dining room much to the enjoyment of guests, associates and excited parents.
Toni Keahiolalo, the Sheraton Kaua‘i Director of Fun, said the arrival of the pre-schoolers heralds the start of the Po‘ipu resort’s holiday schedule of activities.
“Caroling preschoolers will put anyone in the holiday spirit,” Keahiolalo said.
Following the presentations attended by eager parents and guests who left their table to get photos of the caroling preschoolers, the Sheraton Kaua‘i hosted the youngsters to breakfast.
In addition to the Koloa Early School, Keahiolalo said the Kalaheo School Sunshine Express and Punana Leo are also on tap during the schedule that ends on New Year’s Day with the traditional mochi pounding demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m.
In a schedule released by Keahiolalo, the Kalaheo School Sunshine Express will provide a Christmas program Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.. at the Ocean Courtyard when the Sheraton Kaua‘i hosts its Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
On Thursday, the ‘Aha Punana Leo O Kaua‘i Preschoolers will provide Christmas caroling at the Ocean Lobby from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by Na Kilo Hoku presentation, “The One’s Who Look to the Stars.” This presentation on ancient Hawaiian navigation will take place from 7 to 8 p.m.
Friday evening, members of the Koloa Church Choir will treat Sheraton Kaua‘i guests to more Christmas carols at the Ocean Courtyard from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
The West Kaua‘i Children’s Choir will fill the air with more carols on Dec. 23 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Ocean Courtyard, and the Sheraton Kaua‘i’s own Housekeeping Department will welcome Christmas with carols on Christmas morning starting at 8 a.m.
The Sheraton Kaua‘i will bid farewell to 2008 and welcome 2009 with a special New Year’s Eve buffet from 6 to 10 p.m. created by Chef Ben Takahashi. A special fireworks presentation will start at 10 p.m.
This will be followed by the mochi pounding demonstration on New Year’s Day from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ocean Courtyard.
