The Kekaha Chargers cheer squad took a .26 point margin to finish in the medal class at the 2008 Cheer and Dance competition yesterday in Florida.
Competing in the Midget division, the same division as the Lihu‘e Patriots cheer squad, Kekaha put together an 82.56 point performance for third place in the Midget Small class of the Advanced Division.
That was good enough to hold off St. Cecelias Golden Knights who finished fourth with an 82.30-point total. First place in the Midget Small class went to the Wall Knights from the Eastern Region who tallied 89.06 points followed by the Reading Rockets from New England in second place at 87.96 points.
The Lihu‘e Patriots Midget squad finished in 10th place in the competition.
According to Bobby Kamakele, a Westside parent, earlier in the week, the Kekaha Junior PeeWee cheer squad finished sixth out of 22 teams and the Hanapepe Colts PeeWee squad finished eighth out of 22 squads in their routines.
