Students from Kaua‘i’s three middle schools who participate in The Kaua‘i Performing Arts Center (KPAC), will perform three one-act plays at 7 p.m. tonight at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Students from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, under the direction of Dennis McGraw, will be performing, “No Show,” written by Alan Haehnel. Imagine a middle school drama group arriving for class, only to realize that they are in front of an audience, and in fact are supposed to be performing for their final exam. They are, of course, completely unprepared. This makes up the plot of “No Show.” The play features a cast of 24 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.
The students of Waimea Canyon School, under the direction of Leah Tamara, will be performing, “The Nameless Princess,” written by Maureen Brady Johnson. Featuring a cast of 14, this delightful fantasy follows the princess on her quest to finally get a name. Many students play multiple characters who all contribute.
The students of Kapa‘a Middle School will perform, “How to Save the World! (On $40 a day).” Written and directed by husband and wife team Keith and Amy Amano, the play displays their usual wry, cutting-edge humor, with students in a series of skits featuring well-known characters. The Amanos’ have been working with the students of Kapa‘a Middle School for the last 21 years, always writing and directing their own plays. The play features a cast of 20.
Tickets are available at the door or from castmembers. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.
