KIPU — A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman is in critical condition at The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu after an accident at a popular outdoor attraction on the Eastside, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.
She was swinging from a rope at Kipu Falls around 11:08 a.m. yesterday, preparing to land in the pool beneath the falls.
But she failed to let go of the rope in time and hit the side of a rocky hill before falling in the water.
The people she was with helped bring her to the water’s edge, Daubert said.
Rescue specialists and firefighters from the Lihu‘e station responded to the call. They placed her on a board, prepped her for a possible cervical spinal injury, put her on a Stokes litter and took her to the awaiting ambulance.
Medics took her to Wilcox Hospital for treatment before she was airlifted to O‘ahu yesterday evening.
