Castle 3, Kaua‘i 1 – The Lady Knights of Castle High School knocked the Kaua‘i High School’s Red Raiders to the consolation round of the New City Nissan/Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II State Volleyball Championships yesterday, winning in four sets.
In the first match of the night at Farrington High School, Castle won 25-17, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-13. Castle’s Lady Knights were led by Malie Garcia who finished the match with 11 kills.
Kaua‘i’s Jori Jasper finished with the most kills of any team in yesterday’s afternoon opening round with 13.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion Red Raiders (11-3) will play at 3:30 p.m. against the Spartans of Seabury Hall (9-5) who yesterday lost to Kailua’s Surfriders (15-3) in three straight sets — 25-19, 25-7 and 27-25.
The girls from Castle (14-5) stay in the championship bracket and advance to the quarterfinal where they will play the top-ranked defending champions from Hawai‘i Baptist Academy (16-2).
This was Kaua‘i’s first visit to the state championships in five years.
In other Division II play, University Lab School defeated Hawai‘i Prep in four sets, 25-16, 25-22, 17-25 and 25-16. The Junior Bows (11-10) move on to play No. 2 Moloka‘i (11-2).
