The first of its kind for Hawai‘i, “Preserving Paradise” features over 65 organizations that offer short-term volunteer activities with the islands’ land, ocean and wildlife.
It suggests a way for residents and visitors alike to experience Hawai‘i in a way that doesn’t just have less of an impact, but gives something back.
In “Preserving Paradise” meet the people passionate about preserving and protecting Hawai‘i wilderness and underwater sanctuaries. The book offers short-term volunteer opportunities that require less than a day’s commitment (and none more than three months). Some projects take volunteers to places otherwise inaccessible.
Author Kirsten Whatley lives on Maui. In “Preserving Paradise” she shares her passion for keeping the wild places wild and her appreciation of nature as the finest teacher. Her features and essays have appeared in Orion, Northern Lights, Sunset and many other national publications. The book is available in Hawai‘i and will be in Mainland bookstores starting tomorrow.
