Motorcyclist injured at Halfway Bridge

A 37-year-old Lihu‘e man was in fair condition last night at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle accident yesterday afternoon near Halfway Bridge.

The extent of his injuries is not known.

Kyle Masuda was heading west on a motorcycle on Kaumuali‘i Highway approaching Halfway Bridge at around 1:20 p.m.

Masuda jammed on his front brakes when the pickup truck in front of him suddenly slowed in heavy traffic, causing the motorcycle and Masuda to flip over and land on the highway.

Masuda was taken to Wilcox via ambulance.

He was wearing a helmet.

Police believe that speed may have been a factor in this accident.

Traffic was tied up in both directions on Kaumuali‘i for about an hour following the accident.
