Former Chaminade coach to head basketball clinic

Merv Lopes, former basketball coach for Chaminade University, will be heading the clinic scheduled for Oct. 25 and 26 at the Wilcox Gymnasium at Island School.

Forms for the clinic are available online at the Team Central Web site at www.teamcentralhoopz.com and players are encouraged to register early to ensure a space in the clinic. Deadline for pre-registration is Oct. 24.

Players may also register on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for the fifth to ninth graders and between noon and 12:30 p.m. for grades 10 through 12.

Players from fifth through ninth grades will be on the floor from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on both days. Players in grades 10 through 12 will take the floor from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

There is a $30 fee for each player and registration fee includes a clinic T-shirt for the player and lunch.

Assisting Lopes in the clinic will be coaches from Island School, Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools as well as coaches from the Team Central Basketball program.

Kekaha baseball holding registration soon

The Kekaha Youth Baseball Organization will be holding registration for its upcoming Shetland and Pinto divisions. Registration will be accepted from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 and 14 at the Kekaha Park.

Interested players are required to bring their birth certificates and medical insurance cards. The fee is $50.
