Four eligibility slots for the national Pop Warner cheer and dance competition will be finalized Sunday, said Tasha Daligcon, cheer coordinator for the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Association.
Two of the six eligibility slots have already been determined because the teams have no challengers, but at stake are the first and second place berths for the PeeWee and Midget division cheer teams, Daligcon said.
Those berths will be determined at the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Island Cheer Competition which will take place at the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea starting at 10 a.m., Sunday.
“The first and second place teams from both PeeWee and Midget divisions will become eligible for the national competition,” Daligcon said. “That means each winning squad will determine to see if it wants to travel to Florida to compete for the national titles in December.”
Kekaha has already earned its eligibility in the Junior PeeWee division and the Hanapepe Colts earned the rights for the Intermediate Midget division competition.
There are a limited number of tickets available for viewing the competition.
