On Wednesday, the results of the 2008 campaign were released showing Kaua‘i with a compliance rate of 98.76 percent, the highest in the state ever.
Statewide, Hawai‘i ranked among the top in the nation with a 97 percent compliance rate.
“Kudos go to Kaua‘i residents for achieving a milestone,” said Lt. Mark Scribner, head of the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. “We want to thank everyone for buckling up and doing their part to keep our roads safe.”
Scribner noted that in 2002 Kaua‘i’s compliance rate was 88.5 percent and has risen steadily over the years.
“There was only one year when we had a slight decrease,” said Scribner. “But overall our record is very good.”
The annual Click It or Ticket statewide campaign runs throughout the entire month of May.
The highway safety campaign is a joint effort between the state Department of Education, state Department of Heath, state Department of Transportation, the four county police departments, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Safe Community coalitions.
