Steve is into baking, now. Lei had some samples of the Russian tea cookies he made as well as the funky red cupcake with the ono icing. Those are all available at the Kaua‘i Bakery where tourists like to take pictures of the “Tropic Thunder” poster on the window.
And speaking of Kaua‘i Bakery, J. Robertson of Ho‘ike Community Television said the apple cinnamon loaf makes a wicked French Toast, and Lei said the best time for that is on Thursdays … the bread, that is. Not the French Toast. You need to make your own batter for that.
Mahalo to Art Umezu for the heads-up on the Iwaki City group who are here to pay tribute to the late Mayor Bryan Baptiste as well as take in the Kaua‘i Mokihana Festival.
Happy birthday to Patrick Balbarino who got to spend his special day working the anti-terrorism exercise in Nawiliwili. Major Victor Aguilar had 30 of his Waimea High Junior ROTC cadets being the patients from the cruise ship, but still made it to KIF air riflery.
Kapa‘a Junior ROTC Col. Jerald Knudsen had about 60 of his cadets helping at the Wet & Wild water festival at the Pua Loke arboretum (that’s a nice name for park).
On the subject of birthdays, happy birthday to Shastin Snyder who celebrates her special day this weekend.
Stay safe, everyone.
