Wesley Moribe
Wesley Hiroshi Moribe of Kapa‘a died Sept. 17, 2008, at home at the age 50. Born July 26, 1958, in Waimea, he was a maintenance man with Kauai Hilton, also a fisherman and farmer.
He is survived by wife Rita Ann Moribe; sons Wesley Shane Moribe, Rex Ethan Moribe and Ryan Mitsuo Moribe, all of Kapa‘a; brothers Stanley (Maxine) Moribe of California, George (Merl) Moribe of Pearl City, O‘ahu, and Dennis Moribe of San Diego, Calif.; sister Janie (Collin) Kunimura of San Francisco, Calif.; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Frances Sasan
Frances Heneralau Sasan of Lihu‘e died Sept. 20, 2008, at the age of 96. Born Sept. 12, 1912, in San Fernando, Cebu Philippines, she retired from the Lihue Plantation sugar company as a general maintenance worker.
She was preceded in death by husband Timoteo and daughter Lily.
She is survived by sons Jay (Diana), Fred (Camela), Richard (Liane) and William (Maria); daughters Josephine (Victor) Bigno and Lucille (Tony) Bargayo; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. followed by memorial service on Monday, Sept. 29, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Casual attire is suggested. Condolence letters may be mailed to P.O. Box 77, Hilo, HI 96721.

George Toyofuku
George H. Toyofuku of Lihu‘e died Sept. 20, 2008, at home at the age of 78. Born May 29, 1930, in Hanapepe, he was a former state senator, having served the people of Kaua‘i for 24 years in the Hawaii State Senate, the Hawaii House of Representatives and the Kaua‘i County Board of Supervisors. He was also a retired owner/agent with Mokihana Insurance Agency and served as District Governor for Lions International.
He is survived by wife Elsie; sons Guy (Lori) Toyofuku and Dean (Geri) Toyofuku, both of Lihu‘e; daughters Amy of Hilo and Lisa (Lance) Taketa of Hilo; eight grandchildren; brothers Thomas (Grace) Toyofuku and Charles (Carol) Toyofuku, both of Honolulu; and sister Naoe (Kenneth) Fukuda of Honolulu.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission; service officiated by Bishop Thomas Okano will begin at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Warren “Dale” Bessex
Warren “Dale” Bessex of Nin-ilchik, Alaska, died Sept. 23, 2008, at the age of 61. Born Aug. 10, 1947, in San Gabriel, Calif.
He was preceded in death by wife Nora Bessex; sons Shawn and Todd Bessex of California; mother Doris Engelhupt of California; brothers Ron and Terry DeSpain; and four grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family for a “Celebration of Life” service held between 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Bessex residence.
George Batt
George Henry Batt of Princeville died Sept. 20, 2008, at the age of 92. He was born Dec. 9, 1915.
He was preceded in death by son David Heaney (Karen) Batt of Texas.
He is survived by wife Dorris Heaney, daughters Jane Heidi (John) Timmons of Colorado and Wendy Heather (Charlie) Elsasser of Kaua‘i, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several extended family members and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Waioli Hi‘i Church in Hanalei with reception to follow on the church and mission house grounds. Friends may visit prior to the church service. Borthwick Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Flowers accepted as well as donations to Waioli Church, Waioli Mission House and the Kauai Hospice.
Edward Kahale
Edward Manase Kahale of Waimea died Sept. 21, 2008, at home at the age of 65. Born April 22, 1943, in Ni‘ihau, he was a heavy equipment operator with Gay & Robinson.
He is survived by wife Margaret C. Kahale; sons Edward J. Kahale, Andrew M. Kahale and Peter (Lyndsey) Kahale; grandchildren Jessie, Joanna, Kamryn, Kyara, Kailoa and Andrew Jr.; sisters Lily Kanahele, Mina Kanahele, Elena Kanahele, Mabel Kaneakua, Rosemary Vaivao and Connie Castaneda; brother Henry Kahale; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
Services were private.

Patrick Rickord
Patrick Joseph Rickord of Kapa‘a died Sept. 23, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. Born Nov. 11, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, he was retired from the federal government.
He is survived by wife Adele; brother Bill; daughter Wynette; sons Patrick, Michael and Kevin Troy; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4371C Puaole St., Lihue, HI 96766.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Rickord family with arrangements. Services were held Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. Catherine’s Church.
