If you’re heading to O‘ahu for Saturday’s University of Hawai‘i, San Jose State game at Aloha Stadium, be sure to keep updated with traffic and the parking situation.
Stadium manager Scott Chan announced that due to the expected crowd size and cost of operations, the alternate parking site Ford Island will not be available.
The use of Ford Island costs approximately $18,000 for 650 vehicles and it has been decided that “it is not economically feasible to use it… unless the attendance warrants it.” Hawai‘i is expecting nearly 37,000 in attendance for Saturday’s game.
All other alternate parking sites — Leeward Community College, Kamehameha Drive-In and Radford High School will still be open. All parking gates are scheduled to open at the usual time of 2:30 p.m., except for the lower Halawa lot, which will open at 1:30 p.m. for the public.
All inner circle parking is reserved for UH Athletics this season. Access to the inner circle parking areas will be via pass only and through the Main Salt Lake Gate 1 (for sections 1-7) and the North Kam Gate 2 (for sections 8-14).
There will be no public parking available on the inner circle, except for the limited amount of ADA stalls.
Traffic updates can be heard on Honolulu’s ESPN 1420AM starting at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday’s game between the Warriors (1-2, 0-0 Western Athletic Conference) and the Spartans (2-2, 0-0 WAC) will be the conference opener for both.
Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.
