Jun Shiba netted the highest score of the day as the Murasaki Pro Kitaizumi kicked off yesterday with the Round of 96.
Shiba, surfing in Heat 2, made the most of the 2-3 foot surf under cloudy skies, out-distancing the field with speed, future tricks and an air move that scored high. That netted him a heat total of 14.50 points out of a possible 20 points.
Kitaimumi Beach at Minami Soma-shi in Fukushima, Japan, is the main competition site for this event.
The meet moves into the Round of 64 and 32 for the World Qualifying Series today with the LQS starting on Sept. 4 and the pro junior event starting on Sept. 6.
All events finish on the grand final day, Sept. 7.
