Solomon Fu
Solomon K. Fu Sr. of Kekaha died April 16, 2008, in Waimea at the age of 71. Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Hanalei, he was a self-employed wood carver.
He was preceded in death by wife Vernica Kalani Fu, daughter Stella Ortiz, son Hilarrion Kalani, mother Mary Makue Fu and sister Agnes Fuchigama.
He is survived by sons David H. (Malia) Fu, Solomon K. Fu, Samuel K. (Tanya) Fu, James H. Kalani, Leonard Kalani, Mathew Z. Kalani, Anthony Kalani, Solomon Fu Kalani, Ben Kalani Pa‘aluhi, Adrian Kalani, Hermin Kalani, Sammie Kalani, Eddie H. Kalani, Mano Kalani, Solomen Kalani, Samuel H. Kalani, Raymond (Perlita) Kalani, Victor K. Kalani, David D. Kalani and Pumai Kuhio Kaliloa; daughters Healani (Mark) Fu of Honolulu, Haunani Fu, Leiolani (Jake) Velasco, Ida (Stanley) Miguel, Angela Kalani, Jasmine Kalani, Jaime (Elmo) Tafoya, Rebbeca Kalani, Heraldine Kalani, Loke Kalani, Bernice Kalani and Sweetheart Kalani; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; father Charles K.C. Fu Sr.; brothers Charles Fu Jr. of Waimea, Douglas Fu of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, and Calvin Fu of Hanapepe; sisters Lydia (Lionel) Kaohi of ‘Ele‘ele and Thelma (Damascio Jr.) Ruiz of ‘Oma‘o.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Salt Pond Beach Park. Inurnment to follow at Kealia cemetery.
Louis Jacintho
Louis “Uncle Louie” Jacintho Jr. of Koloa, died Aug. 6, 2008, at Garden Isle HealthCare at the age of 83. Born Dec. 19, 1924, in Koloa, he was a retired irrigation supervisor with McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by wife Sayoko Watanabe Jacintho, brother Richard Jacintho and sister Marie Emura.
He is survived by son Dennis (Darcy) Jacintho of ‘Oma‘o; daughters Doreen Jacintho of Koloa and Delia (Bruce) Akaji of Kalaheo; grandchildren Michelle (Kimo Texeira) Jacintho, Nicole Jacintho, Destiny Jacintho, Dennis Jacintho, Rhiannon (Brian) Morales, Electra Aki, Cy (Shan) Akaji, Brooke Akaji, Leif Akaji and Sunny Akaji; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Eleanor Carvalho of Lihu‘e and Lydia Sakimae of Gardena, Calif.; brother-in-law Henry Emura of Kekaha; uncle Gabriel Cataluna Sr. of Koloa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa; Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire. A private scattering of ashes will follow Mass.
Martha Ucko
Martha Ucko of Princeville died Aug. 9, 2008, while visiting family in Short Hills, N.J.
She is survived by husband Kurt Ucko; daughter Linda Ucko-Leiby and husband Kenneth L. Leiby Jr.; son Lloyd Ucko and wife Bunny Ucko, all of Short Hills, N.J.; grandchildren Christopher Ucko and wife Olivia of London, U.K., Justin Ucko and wife Veronica of Short Hills, N.J., Martha Ucko of New York City, Katie Leiby of New York City and Jake Leiby of Short Hills, N.J.; great-grandchildren Rowan, Ian and Lawson of Short Hills, N.J.; nephew Tom Ucko of Summit, N.J.; and niece Pamela Ucko Gumport of Summit, N.J.
Internment will be private. A celebration of her life service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Community Congregational Church, 200 Hartshorn Drive in Short Hills, N.J.

Gladys Yoshie Tashiro
Gladys Yoshie Tashiro of Kalaheo died July 31, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Born Sept. 16, 1918, in Waimea, she was a retired food editor, ‘ohana editor and writer with The Garden Island.
She was preceded in death by parents Yuki and Minesaburo Yamachika.
She is survived by daughters Ora A. Tashiro of Kalaheo, Alma T. (Katsuya) Yamada of Hilo, Hawai‘i, Lynn T. Harmer of Redmond, Wash., Lani T. (John) Bennett of West St. Paul, Minn., and Mimi M. Tashiro of Mountain View, Calif.; grandchildren Lori (Brian) Bianchin of Kaneohe, Hawai‘i, Lani (Aaron) Vanderlip of Redmond, Wash., Wendy (Alain) Clerinx of Springfield, Va., Emi Mari Bennett of West St. Paul, Minn., and Drew Bennett of Stanford, Calif.; great-grandchildren Joshua and Andrew Bianchin, Emily Clerinx and Kai Vanderlip; sister Joan Yamachika of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ; service officiated by Rev. Phyliss Meighen will begin at 3 p.m. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

Shizue Kurasaki
Shizue Kurasaki of Lihu‘e died Aug. 12, 2008, at Garden Isle Healthcare at the age of 85. Born June 12, 1923, in Kaua‘i, she was a retired counter agent.
She is survived by sons Gary (Carol) Kurasaki and Steve Kurasaki, brothers Isao (Vivian) Suzawa and Hiromu (Ann) Suzawa, five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission Church; services will begin at 5 p.m.

William Souza III
William Leo Souza III, formerly of Kapa‘a, died Aug. 5, 2008, in Newport News, Va., at the age of 54. He served in the U.S. Army before returning to Kaua‘i to enjoy his favorite pastimes of fishing and surfing
He was preceded in death by father William L. Souza Jr. and grandparents William and Virginia Souza.
He is survived by mother Evelyn (McKeague) Souza; sisters Valerie (Tommy) Blackman, Verena Souza, Leola Souza and Linda (Larry) Barney; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pat Hallahan
Pat Hallahan of Koloa died June 4, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 59. He was born June 7, 1948, in Orange, Calif.
He is survived by fiancee and best friend Mary Brown; daughter Elyse; grandchildren; brother Bradley “Buzz”; sister Colleen Jean Phillips of Surprise, Ariz.; and his closest companion, “Bubba.” Services are private.
