Three-time Association of Surfing Professionals World Champion Andy Irons secured his spot in Round 4 of the Rip Curl Pro Search in Indonesia yesterday when he defeated Brazil’s Neco Padaratz to advance out of Round 3. Irons revealed his affinity for left breaking barrels, scoring a convincing 17.33 heat total to top Padaratz’s 9.34 (both out of 20.00).
Running in solid 6-foot waves, Round 3 was treated to some fantastic performances, including a convincing win from Bruce Irons. He won his heat scoring 15.50 over Australia’s Tom Whitaker (6.24).
O‘ahu’s Fred Pattachia (6.86) will be advancing to Round 4 with his win over Australia’s Luke Steadman (4.90).
Hanalei’s Roy Powers almost escaped defeat against Australia’s Dean Morrison, but fell just short. Powers posted 9.60 while Morrison won with 10.10.
