Thomas Babauta Sr.
Thomas Santos Babauta Sr. of Kapahi died July 28, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 70. Born April 8, 1937, in Guam, he was a bartender.
He was preceded in death by son Michael Babauta.
He is survived by wife JoLynn Worthington Babauta of Kapahi; sons Robert Babauta and Thomas (Raquel) Babauta Jr.; grandchildren Amber, Brandasia, Taryn, Brandon, Jesse and Keilana; great-grandsons Raymond and Blake; sisters Cotilde (Wayne) Colton of Florida, Hermina Garrido of California, Hazel (Ron) Hite of Arkansas, Lucille (John) McLean of Guam and Florence (Harold) Daniels of New Mexico; brother Jesus Sablan of Russia; mother-in-law Jennis Christian; and nephews, nieces, sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. on July 26 at St. Catherine’s Church. Casual attire is suggested. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Scattering of ashes will be private.
Ramona Lemi
Ramona Aradanas Lemi of Hanama‘ulu died June 30, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 73. Born Dec. 13, 1934, in Kahalu‘u, O‘ahu, she was retired from Hawaiian Fruit Packers Cannery as a laborer.
She was preceded in death by husband Moises Lemi Sr. and daughter Lorie Ann Lemi.
She is survived by children Michelle Lemi, Moises Lemi Jr., Lisa (Terry) Rosare, Wayne (Joanie) Lemi, Allan Lemi, Harold (Debbie) Watson; brothers Johnny F. Tangalin Sr., Paul Pepe‘e, Richard Pepe‘e; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. during a celebration of her life on Saturday, July 26, at Immaculate Conception Church; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.

Basilia Cabais Cabalteja Corrales of Hanama‘ulu died July 2, 2008, at her home at the age of 89. Born on Jan. 10, 1919, in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by son Rudy (Medina) Cabalteja of Hanama‘ulu; daughter Rose (Tom) Cabalteja-Hedeen of O‘ahu; brother Vicente Cabais of the Philippines; grandchildren Marlene (Bill) McLaughlin of Hanapepe, Felina (Chito) Garduque of Kapa‘a and Bryson Cabalteja of Hanama‘ulu; special nieces Caroline Cacatian-Mapue of Hanama‘ulu and Rosalinda Cabais of Kapa‘a; stepchildren Pacio Corrales, Salvador Corrales, Domy Romero and Lori; great-grandchildren Chino Cabalteja of Kapa‘a, Katherine and Cristina McLaughlin of Hanapepe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Renfred Dennis “Randy” Ruiz of Kekaha died May 19, 2008, in Lewistown, Mont., at the age of 55. Born July 9, 1952, in Waimea, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the city and county of Bath, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by mother Aniscacia Feliciano Ruiz.
He is survived by spouse Marilyn Pickering Ruiz of New York; daughter Leilani Ruiz of Savona, N.Y.; father Alfred “Freddy” Ruiz (Doris) of Kekaha; sisters Diana “Dee” Young (Llewellyn) of Kekaha and Ginger Lee Ruiz of Kekaha; brothers Maurice Ruiz (Kim) of Suisun, Calif., and Fredric “Ricky” Ruiz (Emarina) of Waimea; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patrick Allen Rita Sr. of Kalaheo died July 14, 2008, at home at the age of 66. Born May 24, 1942, in ‘Ele‘ele, he was a heavy equipment operator with Hawaiian Dredging.
He is survived by wife Roberta Pualani Rita of Kalaheo; sons Patrick (Pua) Rita of Kalaheo, Kevin Paul Rita of Germany and Aaron Wade Rita of Kalaheo; daughters Mara Leilani Barretto (William Gonsalves) of Lihu‘e and Sui Yen Kanani Rita (Michael Kauwe) of Kalaheo; seven grandchildren; brother Stanley Rita of Kalaheo; sister Maryann McKee of Texas; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Felisa Dorothy Castelo Villanueva of Kilauea died July 16, 2008, at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 83. Born October 5, 1924, in Kilauea, she was employed by Hanalei Plantation as a housekeeper and later retired from Pali Ke Kua.
She was preceded in death by husband Peren; parents Felix and Rapaela Castelo; brothers Felix “Dong”, John, Peter, Donald and Joseph; sisters Rose Lopez and Eleanor Kinney.
She is survived by son Peren (Christa) Villanueva of New York, sisters Mary (Masa) Yoshimura of Wailua, Charlene (Eddie) Sarita of Hanama‘ulu, brother Edward (Sidra) Castelo of Washington, brother-in-law Kiha Kinney, sister-in-laws Rose and Kathy, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. during a celebration of her life on Monday, July 28, at St. Sylvester Church in Kilauea; Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 11:45 a.m. Casual attire suggested and flowers graciously declined.

Emma “Effie” Valencia of Kekaha died July 20, 2008, at home at the age of 67. She was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Klamath Falls, Ore.
She was preceded in death by sons Robert Valencia Jr., Richard Valencia and Larry Valencia.
She is survived by husband Robert “Bob” Valencia Sr.; son Ron (Julie) Valencia of Lihu‘e; one grandchild; sisters Jonel (Clyde) Wright of Washington, Barbara (Max) Dalton and Jeri Fay, both of Oregon.

Leatrice W. Gonsalves of Kapa‘a died July 18, 2008 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Born Feb. 24, 1926, in Honolulu, she was a retired school teacher.
She is survived by sons Colin (Ann) Gonsalves, Brian Gonsalves and Mark Gonsalves; daughters Lovey (William) Derego, Ada-Jo (Mark) Rossi and Wendy (Jose) Tablada; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
