Tom Beck
Tom W. Beck Sr. died July 12, 2008, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 94. He was born Oct. 13, 1913.
He was preceded in death by wife Helen Riggs Beck and grandson James W. Beck.
He is survived by sons Tom W. Beck II (Jennie) of Wailua and David A. Beck (Josefina) of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter Donna B. Seegar-Sedmak (Steven Sedmak) of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren Robert Beck of Kaua‘i, William Seegar (Beth) and Tom Seegar of Virginia; Sandra B. Cole (Spencer) of Oregon, Brian Beck of Nevada and James Seegar of Maryland; and great-grandchildren John Thomas Beck of California, Allison Katlyn Stuart of Georgia and Mason Thrasher Cole of Oregon.
Funeral service and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 25, at the Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, O‘ahu. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to a military veterans’ charity of your choice.
Phyllis Guthrie
Phyllis Jeannine Guthrie of Lihu‘e died July 13, 2008, at home at the age of 73. She was born in Ohio and retired as a county clerk for Pima County, Ariz., and also was a volunteer docent at the Kilauea Lighthouse.
She is survived by sons Bruce Lenores and his partner Robb Wall of Wailua House Lots, Steve Lenores of Las Vegas and brother Larry (Gail) Border of Ohio.
A celebration of her life is planned for the near future.
Donations to American Cancer Society or Kaua‘i Hospice are encouraged. Flowers are graciously declined.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Guthrie/Lenores family with arrangements.
Conrado Resinto
Conrado L. Resinto died May 1, 2008, in San Carlos City, Philippines, at the age of 79.
He is survived by wife Ofelia Resinto; children Josie Resinto, Lolita Galo, Eddie Resinto, Maria Resinto, Zenaida Dizol, Paris Resinto, Reza Minia, Carol Resinto, Maryann Resinto, Kevin Resinto and Kekua Resinto; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held in the Garden of Angels, Philippines.
Renfred Ruiz
Renfred Dennis “Randy” Ruiz of Kekaha died May 19, 2008, in Lewistown, Mont., at the age of 55. Born July 9, 1952, in Waimea, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for the city and county of Bath, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by mother Aniscacia Feliciano Ruiz.
He is survived by spouse Marilyn Pickering Ruiz of New York; daughter Leilani Ruiz of Savona, N.Y.; father Alfred “Freddy” Ruiz (Doris) of Kekaha; sisters Diana “Dee” Young (Llewellyn) of Kekaha and Ginger Lee Ruiz of Kekaha; brothers Maurice Ruiz (Kim) of Suisun, Calif., and Fredric “Ricky” Ruiz (Emarina) of Waimea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha; mass begins at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Hatsue Mukai
Hatsue I. Mukai of Waimea died June 9, 2008, at Kauai Care Center at the age of 97. Born July 5, 1910, in Waimea, she was a licensed practical nurse with Waimea Dispensary.
She is survived by husband Sutezo Mukai, daughter Elaine (Kiichi) Fujii; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother Bert (Ruby) Ishikawa, sister Kay (Jay) Groff Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
Thomas Babauta Sr.
Thomas Santos Babauta Sr. of Kapahi died July 28, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 70. Born April 8, 1937, in Guam, he was a bartender.
He was preceded in death by son Michael Babauta.
He is survived by wife JoLynn Worthington Babauta of Kapahi; sons Robert Babauta and Thomas (Raquel) Babauta Jr.; grandchildren Amber, Brandasia, Taryn, Brandon, Jesse and Keilana; great-grandsons Raymond and Blake; sisters Cotilde (Wayne) Colton of Florida, Hermina Garrido of California, Hazel (Ron) Hite of Arkansas, Lucille (John) McLean of Guam and Florence (Harold) Daniels of New Mexico; brother Jesus Sablan of Russia; mother-in-law Jennis Christian; and nephews, nieces, sisters and brothers-in-law.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. on July 26, 2008, at St. Catherine’s Church. Casual attire is suggested. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Scattering of ashes will be private.
Khai Chau
Khai Chau of Lihu‘e died July 12, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 44. Born June 18, 1964, in Vietnam, he was a salesman.
He is survived by parents Giam and Kim Chau; sisters Francine (Quang Ke) Tiet, Manh Ha Chau and Le Van Ton; brothers Kenny Ton and Thomas Chau; grandmother Dau Tiranh; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Casual attire is suggested.
