Governor Linda Lingle has released $550,000 in planning, design and construction funds for the renovation of the Hanapepe Armory on Kaua‘i.
Improvements will address overdue repairs, including replacing the armory’s roof, which has deteriorated beyond repair; replacing ceiling tiles in the classrooms that were damaged by heavy rains in 2006; replacing rusted gutters and downspouts; and repairing damaged structural elements.
“This project will restore Hanapepe Armory so that it can better serve the needs of our Army National Guard and accommodate the community in the event of an emergency,” said Lingle, according to a press release.
The project is also receiving $594,500 in federal funds. Construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2009.
