The county’s annual hazardous waste collection for residents is scheduled this weekend, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the following locations:
• Hanalei transfer station and the Department of Public Works’ Kapa‘a base yard, located at the end of Kahau Road near the Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins Saturday.
• Hanapepe and Lihu‘e transfer stations Sunday.
Unwanted hazardous products will be accepted for safe disposal at no charge including: aerosols, anti-freeze, batteries, cleansers, fluorescent bulbs, gasoline, paint thinners, pesticides and solvents.
Latex paint is not considered household hazardous waste and therefore will not be accepted. For disposal instructions on latex paints or more information, contact the county’s Solid Waste Division at 241-6891.
