One more round of mahalo to Lisa Iida (she wasn’t there when James Paik’s name was accidentally left off the roster) and Sam Koga for doing such a great job with getting results to us so TGI readers can be on top of what is going on in the sports world.
Sam’s recount of the LBL Mustangs (sorry for missing Mason Chow in the roster) coming in No. 2 in the state was shipped out at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Alika Emayo’s mom offered to do the e-mail thing for the Kaua‘i Pony All Stars on their Hilo trip (Warren Koga said it’s Hank Ibia’s homecoming) for the state bid. Actually, she said her other son is playing in Hanapepe for the Bronco All Stars so it’s big brother’s turn to do the cheering in Hanapepe.
Hopefully, coach Abe Kuhaulua and his Kawaihau Majors All Stars got past Day 1 in its District fight and are on schedule for 1 p.m. today against Kailua (yes, that was the team featured on KITV news when someone broke into the District One playoff field and stole a borrowed generator).
The good thing about all these tournaments is how the island rallies around the players … LBL Bronco All Star coach Tom Vallatini remembers Kyana Hirokane (she’s a Major All Star) from the days she played at the LBL parks, and even with the Bronco state tournament going on, coach Wes Masumura is thinking about the Kaua‘i Pony (Lanaly Cabalo said they should do a remix of Tommy James and the Shondells’ “Mony, Mony” to “Pony, Pony”) All Stars in Hilo.
OK, ‘nuff said. Time to get the feet back on the ground.
